They say crime doesn’t pay. And it usually doesn’t (because you will eventually get caught and go to prison). But what crime does do is make for an entertaining movie genre.

Sometimes horror movies take off and become major successes despite relatively small production budgets. Two of the most impressive films at the box office in 2026 fall into that category: Obsession and Backrooms. But what about quality horror movies that don’t take off the same way?

Mind-bending movies are some of my favorite types of films. In some cases, they force viewers to question what’s real and actually going on. In other instances, a story can be mind-bending through the ideas or concepts it presents.

The historical drama has always been one of my favorite TV genres of shows, and since starting this site several years ago, I’ve watched my fair share of series that fall into the category. Here are nine historical drama shows I’d definitely recommend.
