The historical drama has always been one of my favorite TV genres of shows, and since starting this site several years ago, I’ve watched my fair share of series that fall into the category. Here are nine historical drama shows I’d definitely recommend.

Having recently watched and enjoyed Season 1 of The Pitt, I was excited to check out this second season. I’m happy to report that this sophomore outing of the medical drama is on par with that initial season in terms of quality. However, there are a few aspects of the show that prevent it from being truly outstanding.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a refreshing (yet brief) return to the Westeros. A prequel to Game of Thrones, the six-episode series is an adaptation of the first of three novellas in George R. R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series.

I’m always on the hunt for quality TV shows to watch. In honor of President’s Day earlier this month, I decided to check out an older miniseries that I’d heard of but had never gotten around to watching: HBO’s John Adams.

I’m a bit late to the party when it comes to watching/reviewing HBO’s first season of the critically acclaimed The Pitt. Well, as the saying goes, better late than never.

It’s hard to believe that 2025 has come to an end. Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday everyone was in a panic because all of the world’s infrastructure was going to shut down because of the Y2K bug. Now we’re suddenly a quarter done with this century.

Netflix’s four-episode miniseries, Death by Lightning, is a historical drama centering on a U.S. president most viewers likely don’t know too much about.

Is HBO’s Task up to the task (of being one of the better quality shows newly streaming)? It just might be, but it’s lacking that special something that truly sets it apart.

It’s not too bold to say that Alien: Earth is the best show or film that’s been released in the Alien franchise in my lifetime. It’s somewhat harder to grasp that a franchise that gave us a fantastic first two films, Alien in 1979, and the far more action-oriented Aliens in 1986, hasn’t really had many great releases since then.

The Gilded Age has always been a show that’s lived in the shadow of its far superior forbearer, Downton Abbey. That’s never been more evident than with this current season, which though completely watchable and mostly entertaining, is the weakest season of either series.

Really simply quite lackluster.

Dept. Q might be the most recent bingeable program Netflix has released, but I think we need to go over whether or not it’s actually any good.

Nearly three years after an amazing first season, Andor has returned. Unfortunately for fans of those initial 12 episodes, the second, and final, season of Andor is a major letdown.

I’m not typically one to write-up anything about a show after only watching one episode, but the premiere of Dope Thief is so cliché and subpar that it merits this post.

Yikes. Sometimes a finale really can spoil an entire season. This was unfortunately the case with the third season of The White Lotus.

For viewers with an appetite for more emotional television that isn’t always an easy watch you’d be hard-pressed to find a better program in recent memory than Netflix’s newest hit.

Episode 3 of Season 48 of Survivor epitomized some of the biggest problems with the direction the newer seasons of the show have taken.

I watched the first three episodes of Paradise so you don’t need to.

If you’re in the mood for a decent, grim Western, then Netflix’s newest 6-episode series might be just what you’re looking for.

With a subpar plot and bland characters, Season 2 of a once-promising series is a big letdown.
