The Expanse Season 6, Episodes 1-3

TV

I’ll do a more in-depth look at this season and on The Expanse as a whole in a few days once I finish the season/series, but so far these episodes have been good, but not great.

We’re spending a lot of time concentrating on the Free Navy characters who I’m not super interested in. I think Marco Inaros is supposed to be scary/menacing, but most of the time he comes across not at all intimidating to me—sort of just a little guy with long hair who thinks he’s tough and uses a silly voice. Like Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica, but less fun and not as good of a character. His son, Filip, I mainly just find annoying.

As far as the crew of the Rocinante, who I’m more invested in, we haven’t spent a lot of time really exploring their relationships further so far this season. Holden is in a relationship with Naomi. Amos is protective of Clarissa, in the way he was with Naomi in the first few seasons. But beyond this, we’re not getting too much— just a few very brief scenes here and there.

I think that’s part of the problem with these short seasons where a lot of actual plot needs to happen for the story to wrap up— you don’t get time to work on characters and let the story breath because you need to hit all your plot points. We’ll see how I feel though after finishing all the episodes.
